Aaron's Two Cents: Your life doesn't suck, you just need more options

Five years ago, my wife was working a job she hated. She worked 10-12 hour days and came home stressed every day which caused her to lose 15 pounds over a two month period.

You wanna know why we needed her to work? To pay for a brand new Subaru Forester and a house that was too big for us. Stupid.

I was trading her time, her energy, and her stress for stuff we didn't even need.

We would be fine with a 10-year old car and a townhouse with less sq. footage.

I was doing my best to encourage her and lift her up when she came home exhausted, but those words were empty.

She was locked in that job until we made a change.

Give Yourself More Options

Our options back then were:

a) She quits her job and we lose our car and house

b) She interviews for another job that maybe, hopefully is less stressful

Those options suck so we gave ourselves more by:

1) Paying off our debt ahead of time ($40k in 9 months)

2) Downsizing our lifestyle (sold a car, bought a townhouse)

Five years later, my wife hasn't worked a full-time job in over a year and when she did work, it was a job with lower pay but more flexibility and less stress. She had options.

If you hate your job, life, relationship, [insert whatever thing you hate here], fix your finances and you will give yourself more options.
